What an amazing day for the NYC half-marathon! Check out my sexiness as I run through Times Square sporting my Team Fox singlet, Brooks Trance shoes and my new bright orange calf sleeves. Not sure if they help but they sure look good!!
It sure was a departure from the last NYC Half Marathon last August when temps were close to 90. Everything went pretty smoothly and I think that NYRR did a great job and the changes to the course were a lot better. Didn’t even mind the turn around as people were pretty spaced out by then.
Overall, I was going to take this race easy…but…that never happens. Although I did run it smarter. I ran with a co-worker and she was shooting for a sub 1:50 so I thought I would hang with her for awhile and see how the knee held up. Overall, I never really had any issues with anything. We ran 8:00 to 8:45′s for most of the race until Muriel saw that she could definitely get under 1:50…then she kicked it in. I really felt great and surely could have pushed it more but why? I’m just getting my mileage up there again and I don’t want another setback. I ended up finishing in 1:49:02 and feeling pretty good. I finished it off with some eggs, hash browns and a couple blood mary’s at the ODEAN!!
Now I’m on the couch taking it easy. Seemed like I ran around all weekend. Surely a nap has to be around the corner. This week I hope to run Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday along with a spin class thrown in there. Next half marathon isn’t until May so I’m going to try and get my fitness level up and my pant size down…
Thanks brooks running, nuun tablets and GU energy for giving me everything that I need to finish these distance races in style.
CONGRATS MURIEL. I didn’t mention it yet but Muriel is on my funner runner team for NYC 2010 and I’m certain she could get under 4:00.
CONGRATS PIGTAILS FLYING for your PR.
CONGRATS to all of the runners who ran on this glorious day…truly perfect.

Great job out there!! You were pretty speedy, considering you started off thinking you were going easy. Good job getting a blog up so fast too.
Sorry, I couldn’t play for you at mile 11. I was so sad when my power source stopped cooperating. I was eating it up for about 50 mins and ready to keep going. After awhile I just started playing without amplification, that probably at least looked better than standing there disappointed like when you passed
I’m sure that sucked!! I was telling my friend that you were playing and I was psyched to hear you after running through the many “club beats” and bongo drum areas.
I am not always a smart runner but I sometime lie to myself and tell myself that “I’ll take it easy” I can do that on training runs but put a big fat guy in front of me and I’m gonna try and whoop his as
Hope you enjoyed the weather. It was amazing!
